What type of thoughts are you filling your mind with… Positive or Negative?
When your mind is filled with positive thoughts you help boost your mood and generate more happiness in your life as well as other around you. Positive thinking also has great health benefits such as increasing your life span, reducing depression, better psychological and physical well being, reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and better coping skills during hard times. Some theories explain that a positive outlook helps you cope better with stressful situations which reduces the harmful health effects that stress has on the body.

Just as with positive thoughts, negative ones also have effects on us.  Having negative thoughts can have a tremendous effect on how you live your life and how others see you. They can lead to feelings of anger, frustration, irritability, anxiety and even depression. All of these feeling can cause a person to indulge in unhealthy eating habits. Since they are already in a negative state of mind, they will not be as dedicated to choosing healthy options and incorporating physical activity into their life. As we all know when we have unhealthy habits and no physical activity our physical symptoms will increase. This can begin a dangerous downward spiral.

The good news is that those nasty little negative thoughts don’t need to continue to take up space in your mind. With some practice you can help create positive thoughts and brighter days.  Lets kick those negative thoughts to the curb!!

  • Remove negative self talk. Talking or thinking bad about yourself everyday takes a toll. Whenever you feel a negative thought, say “stop” or “cancel” or even picture the words in your mind.  Make sure to follow it up with something positive.
  • Get rid of beliefs that no longer benefit you. Create new self supporting goals.
  • Stop comparing yourself to others. We are all individuals and were not created to be the same. Instead of comparing yourself to someone, try admiring them.
  • Don’t resist change, take small steps to achieve whatever changes you are searching for. Trying to jump in all at once, can cause anxiety and stress which can lead to more negative thinking.
  • Do focus on the good. Even when things are crazy and seem bad, look for the good and happy things in your life. Write in a journal each day 5 thoughts you are grateful for.
  • Walk it out. Walk with confidence, stand tall & smile. Posture can effect your mood, so strut your stuff.
  • Surround yourself with people who are happy and uplifting. It will help you feel more grounded, inspired and connected.
  • Take time to reflect, release and rest your thoughts and emotions. Try meditating or just sitting in your favorite quiet space to allow your mind and body a chance to settle itself.
  • Do something good for someone else. Focus on helping or lifting another person up and watch how you start to feel better.
