Helpful tips for eating healthy
Sometimes eating healthy can seem overwhelming with all the information out there, but it doesn’t have to. It can be easy to start incorporating small routines to get yourself on the right track to a healthy lifestyle. As a Holistic Health Coach, I have put together some helpful tips for eating healthy.
Start with your plate, it should be full of color and healthy foods. Your plate should consist of Fruits/Vegetables, Whole Grains, Protein, Healthy Fats & Oils, and Water.
The plate should be broken down to: ½ Vegetables/Fruit; ¼ Healthy High-quality Protein; ¼ Starch (barley, quinoa, brown rice, sweet potato, buckwheat, etc.); Healthy Fats such as Omega 3s found in salmon, walnuts, flaxseed, eggs, chia seeds, hemp seeds, etc. and always your Water.
It is important to remember to eat 3 healthy meals and 2 healthy snacks every day. Food is fuel and promotes healing for our bodies. If we are not eating the correct way, our body will not be able to function or heal the way it was designed to. Preparing healthy snacks can also be a great tool during a stressful day that can help keep you on track as well as provide your body the nutrients you need to get through the day.
Avoiding or limiting soda, juices, artificial sweeteners, junk food and sugary treats. These can cause inflammation, cravings and imbalances in our bodies. If you find that you can’t avoid them all together, then save them for a “special occasion” every now and then.
If you need a quick measuring guide to help you avoid overeating, try the following:
Thumb = 1oz
Palm = 3 to 4oz
Closed Fist = 1 cup
Tip of Thumb = 1 tsp
Handful = 1-2oz (nuts)
