Top reasons why walking is good for Endometriosis.

So many times, people ask me the Top reasons why walking is good for Endometriosis.  In this article, you will find some helpful tips and tricks. For some women who have Endometriosis running may be a great way to stay in shape, they have spent time building up and conditioning their bodies to be able to run for a long period of time or distance. However, for others who may be just starting out or has an injury, running can seem to be overwhelming. So, to answer your question.

YES, walking is great and has lots of benefits. 

As an Endo fighter, I love walking.  It has amazing benefits in helping me, especially on days that may be a little harder. When we are walking, we are boosting our oxygen flow as well as releasing endorphins which help us decrease our stress hormones and improve our mood/anxiety. Walking can also help with balancing blood sugars, reducing cardiovascular risks by improving blood flow, and keep your heart healthy. Digestive issues like endo belly? Walking helps keep things moving and helps reduce bloating. Try walking a hill, then up and down of hills increases the use of your hips, knees, and ankle muscles, which will help build strength.  It also is great for keeping our synovial fluid around our joints moving. One of the most common reasons to start walking….. WEIGHT LOSS. Yup, walking can help with weight loss, reducing body fat and waist circumference.

So now that you know all the benefits of walking…. Are you ready to get started?

Here are a couple of tips that can help:

  1. Find the right shoes.  Make sure that you have the right supportive shoes on, this will help avoid any injury.
  2. Keep up the pace.  Do not just leisurely walk, make sure you are walking at a faster pace with some power behind it.
  3. Build up your stamina.  Start by walking 30 mins a day, 3 times a week. Once you feel like this is becoming comfortable, increase it. Add another day or add some time to your walk
  4. Change your scenery. Don’t just stick to the same route, try hilly trails, beaches, parks, or even hiking.
  5. Grab some support. Whether,  it’s a friend, family member, or an Endometriosis coach.  Have someone who supports/encourages you and your goals. Someone who can remind you of your “WHY”
